Happiness does not always arrive before the practice.

Lately, I have been feeling that in a very real way.

I have been going to a lot of doctors, trying to understand if there is something physical contributing to my anxiety, if this is hormonal, or if this is simply part of being a person who has lived with anxiety since childhood.

The testing, waiting, wondering, and trying to figure out what is happening inside your own body can take a toll.

Even when you are doing the responsible thing.
Even when you are advocating for yourself.
Even when the appointments matter.

It can still feel heavy.

Perimenopause can make that heaviness even more confusing. But that doesn’t mean I’m broken. It means my body is moving through a real transition, and my nervous system, brain, and hormones are all part of the conversation.

This is where movement can help.

Not as punishment.
Not as a way to fix your body.
Not because you need to earn your mood.

Movement gives your brain and body a signal.

When you move, your body can release chemicals connected to mood, motivation, pleasure, and stress relief. Exercise can support dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins, which is part of why a walk, a yoga practice, a strength session, or even a few minutes on the mat can leave you feeling a little more like yourself.

You do not have to feel amazing before you begin.

The practice can come first.

The mood can follow later.

And small things count. A fake smile. A silly laugh. A dance in your kitchen. A few sun salutations. A slow flow where you are not trying to impress anybody, including yourself.

Your body does not need a perfect workout to shift the energy.

It just needs a doorway.

So this week’s practice is about moving to feel better mentally. We are not chasing a performance. We are not trying to become bendy little wellness robots. We are simply giving the body a chance to move some of the heaviness through.

Take your time on the mat.

Breathe.

Move.

Let the practice meet you where you are.

You do not have to feel happy to begin taking care of yourself.

Sometimes care is what helps the light come back in.
