Work In Progress, Not A Workout

A gentle reminder: your mat is not a test. It’s a place to meet yourself.

There’s a version of yoga that can feel like a scoreboard.
How deep did you go, how much did you sweat, how “good” was the class, did you earn the stretch, did you deserve the rest.

Not today.

Today’s practice is simple and honestly kind of radical: step onto your mat with zero expectations and listen like your body is someone you love.

Because your body is not a project you’re behind on. It’s the one home you live in for your whole life. And it speaks to you all day long in sensations, cravings, tension, fatigue, restlessness, buzzing energy, heaviness, softness. Most of the time we translate those messages into “I should work harder” or “I should fix this.”

But what if the mat is not a workout.
What if it’s a work in process.

A place to move for vitality. To lubricate the joints. To breathe your nervous system down from the ledge. To make space in the ribs. To un-grip the jaw. To remind your hips they’re allowed to soften. To get blood flow without punishment. To leave the practice feeling more like yourself, not more like a “better” version of yourself.

Here’s the invitation for this week’s class:

  • Start with one honest question: What do I need today?

  • Then move like you’re answering it in real time.
Maybe your body wants slow circles and long exhales. Maybe it wants shaking, stronger holds, heat, or a few playful transitions. Maybe it wants the simplest shapes and a lot of time on the floor. All of it counts.

  • Let “good” mean regulated, more spacious, more present, more alive.

If your brain tries to turn this into a performance, that’s normal. Just notice it and come back to one true thing: sensation. Breath. Feet on the mat. The feeling of your spine moving. The quiet relief of meeting your body without demands.

You don’t have to earn your own care.
You just have to show up.
